1 or 2 vocal students at Master level
The European Opera is responding to new developments in music theatre by offering various modules at selected academies of music throughout Europe. This entrepreneurial platform is a meeting point for international benchmarking in professional opera and music theatre education, taking into account the personal needs and talents of each individual student.
In this module, the singer students get to explore venues and spaces different from the theatre, and how they influence the music-dramatic expression. The way of relating to the audience in the chosen room is also explored, and the students get to influence the point of departure for the explorative work.
The module is based on the student’s choice of an operatic role for close study in musical interpretation coaching and vocal lessons. Selected scenes are then worked on for the specific space and further developed and explored in the performance site.
The module is concluded with a musical run-through of the role and a performance of the scenes in the chosen venue. Recently the venue has been the “Reactor Hall” of the Stockholm institute of technology, an exciting underground former nuclear reactor plant, now a cultural venue for the Institute of technology.
The Stockholm University of the Arts has educations in all performing arts related professions: scenography, costume, masque, light design, directing.
Description of final examination:
Students are assessed regarding the intended learning outcomes through a separate stage presentation and a subsequent reflective discussion in the group and individually.
