site - event - encounter
In this module, the singer students get to explore venues and spaces different from the theatre, and how they influence the music-dramatic expression. The way of relating to the audience in the chosen room is also explored, and the students get to influence the point of departure for the explorative work.
The module is based on the student’s choice of an operatic role for close study in musical interpretation, coaching and vocal lessons. Selected scenes are then worked on for the specific space and further developed and explored in the performance site.
A performance of the selected scenes is staged in the chosen venue. Recently the venue has been the “Reactor Hall” of the Stockholm institute of Technology, an exciting underground former nuclear reactor plant, now a cultural venue for the Institute of Technology.
In the second phase of the course, students will work another two weeks in spaces and buildings outside the school, exploring how voice and architecture interact and create new auditive spaces for the performer and the audience.
The module will also include a concert in December, on stage at Hugoteatern, the studio theatre of the school.
